WALK DESCRIPTION: Standing on the summit of a prominent hill above the market town of Brecon, Pen-Y-Crug is one of the most impressive hillforts in the Brecon Beacons National Park. This scenic, five-mile circular walk will start from Theatr Brycheiniog and advance alongside the river Usk toward Brecon Cathedral before making the 331m ascent toward the Crug. On reaching the summit there are archaeological remains to explore and the reward of breathtaking, expansiveviews before descending and returning to Theatr Brycheiniog via a slightly different route.
DATE: Sunday 5th April 202o
TIME: 9.15am meet for 9.30am start
START POINT: Theatr Brycheiniog (Brecon Theatre), Canal Wharf, Brecon, LD3 7EW
FEE: There are parking charges at the Theatre's car park.  remember to bring change.  £2.60 for 4 hours. 
DISTANCE: 5 miles (approx)
DURATION: Allow 3 hours
TERRAIN: Once away from the town there are mostly grassy paths and several stiles throughout the walk. There is a steady steep, climb covering 140m of incline from Maen-du-Well to the top of Pen-y-Crug. Trails may become slippery depending on weather conditions.
KIT: Suitable footwear (walking boots or walking trainers); comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing; drink and snack; walking poles could be helpful.
OTHER INFO: Horses and sheep may be expected along part of the route. as stated above, this walk is NOT dog-friendly due to a few awkward stiles and the presence of livestock.
CHARITY: LLuest Horse & Pony Trust. This small independent charity nestling among the Black Mountains in the beautiful Carmarthenshire countryside, was founded in 1985.  It is a rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming centre.  To date, the Trust has found new approved homes for over 300 horses and ponies.
